Rebates

Federal & state government rebates

Here in Victoria, when replacing your existing hot water system, you could be eligible for up to three different government rebates; the STC, VEECS, & Solar Victoria rebate. We offer point of sale discounts for these rebates, helping you save up front!

STC Rebate

STC rebates offer upfront savings for installing energy-efficient systems, with all paperwork handled. Savings can be $700-800, and it’s possible to apply for STC and VEECS Rebates together.

  • At Melbourne Heat Pumps, we’re proud to help our customers take advantage of the Australian Government’s Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme. This initiative is designed to encourage the adoption of renewable energy systems, including heat pump hot water systems, by reducing upfront costs.

When you install an eligible system with us, it earns STCs, which are tradeable certificates representing the environmental benefits of your system. The number of STCs generated depends on factors like your system’s efficiency, your location, and its expected energy savings over its lifetime.

To make the process seamless, we handle all the paperwork on your behalf and apply the rebate as an upfront discount on your invoice. This means you save instantly without having to worry about trading the certificates yourself.

  • To qualify for the STC rebate:

    1. Your system must be listed on the Clean Energy Regulator’s approved product list.

    2. Installation must be completed by a licensed professional (that’s us!).

    3. It must replace an older, less efficient system or be part of a new build.

By choosing us, you not only get access to the best heat pump systems but also benefit from significant savings thanks to the STC scheme. You can expect savings from (~$700-$800)*

It’s possible to apply for both the STC and VEECS Rebates together.

VEECS Rebate

VEECs provide rebates for reducing emissions by replacing inefficient hot water systems in Victoria. Savings can be $400-800, and it’s possible to apply for VEECS and STC Rebates together.

  • In addition to the federal STC scheme, the Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificate (VEEC) scheme offers further savings for eligible heat pump hot water installations. This state-level program incentivises the adoption of energy-efficient technologies by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Under the VEEC program, installations generate “Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates”, which represent the emission reductions achieved by your new system compared to what it’s replacing. So the more inefficient your existing HWS is, the more VEECs you’ll get.

  • To qualify for the VEECs rebate:

    1. Your system must meet the Victorian Government’s eligibility requirements.

    2. Installation must be completed by a licensed professional.

    3. The system must replace an older, less efficient unit or form part of an energy-efficient upgrade.

By combining both the STC and VEEC rebates, you can enjoy significant savings on your new heat pump system with us.  You can expect savings from ~$400-$800* with the VEECs rebate.

It’s possible to apply for both the STC and VEECS Rebates together.

Solar Vic Rebate

The Solar Victoria rebate offers a $1,000 discount for eligible households installing heat pump systems. Under this rebate you can also apply for the solar panels rebate as well.

  • The Solar Victoria (SV) rebate provides additional savings for eligible Victorian households installing heat pump hot water systems. Unlike the STC/VEECs rebates, the SV rebate offers a flat $1,000 discount. This is because rather than solely pertaining to existing/new HWS, the SV scheme also relies upon a few means-tested factors.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, check the SV website here.

  • As it stands, the key eligibility criteria are as follows:

    1. You are the owner-occupier of the property where the new heat pump is being installed.

    2. Your combined taxable household income is less than $210,000 annually

    3. Your property value is under $3,000,000

    4. Your existing HWS is at least 3 years old (from date of purchase)

    5. Your address has not previously received the hot water rebate (even under different owners).

Keep in mind, consumers are allowed to get the SV solar panel PV rebate in addition to the hot water rebate as well!
